Each reportage artist will have their own methods of how they proceed with the task of capturing their subject. However, it comes down to same processes. Many of it is drawing on location or in the situation with the intent of capturing specific moments or, and objects. The key method is just translating what is witnessed into homemade imagery and base it of what narrative they want to create. Reportage illustration comes from the desire for information and historically produce important function in documenting rituals, places, and events. As many artists do it on site materials are considered as they would have to accessible and easy to use to produce fast sketches. So, medias such as watercolour, pen, ink, and pencil are widely used. Though, some drawings can be drawn after the event often from memory which allows the rang of media to be different so any other media could be used such as charcoal or paint. Though media is often chosen also to show the atmosphere of the place and even convey emotion depending on the situations.
